Primary schools can be some of the most energetic places to work. It’s an extremely important era for a child’s development, especially teaching jobs at key stage 1 and keys stage 2.

The core subjects are English, Maths and Science, as expected. And ensuring a child has a good understanding on these subjects before they enter secondary school is fundamental. Primary school teachers are expected to display a basic understanding on core subjects for key stages 1 and 2.

Today degrees are a must if you want to gain primary school teaching jobs, but they do not have to in a specific subject. Core subjects are obviously important but non-core subjects are perhaps just as important, and if you have a good understanding on non-core subjects, you can open a child’s mind out to future possibilities.

There is design and technology (D&T), information and communication technology (ICT), history, geography, modern foreign languages (MFL), art and design, music and physical education (PE). A child may have a passion for some of these subjects, some student may not, but either way they are still part of the curriculum, and if you want to gain a primary teaching job, an understanding on these is a must.
