Once qualified as a teacher, you must decide where you wish to work. Not everyone wants to teach full time in a school – some people may need more flexible working hours, or perhaps would enjoy the freedom to move between different schools on a regular basis. Supply teaching could be the right choice for those people.

Being a supply teacher involves working for an agency, who can send you to different schools as and when there is a working need. There are pros and cons with all sides of teaching, some of the pros for supply are that you have the experience of teaching in different schools, which could help you to learn which types are your favourites. As well as this, generally, lesson plans are done ready for the supply teacher to deliver to the classes – this is not always the case however, many supply teachers are left with very few instructions and a class of lively children to do something with! Supply teachers often need to think on their feet and come up with a creative lesson using very few resources.
