There are so many reasons why it can make sense to become a supply teacher, and we’re going to guide you through some of the key advantages. Whether you’re looking for a career change or have just come out of university and are considering a career in education, here are a few reasons why you may want to get into supply teaching, also known as substitute teaching.

  1. Flexibility

As a supply teacher, you are independent in terms of where you can work and the hours you choose. So essentially you have an adaptable work routine. With all this free time, you can learn new hobbies and spend more time with your family. Teachers can learn without the need for excessive burdens of documents and administration related to the profession.

  1. Diversity

In the teaching of a sentence, there is never a boring moment. You can travel, communicate with many teachers and meet a wide range of students whilst learning interesting subjects.

  1. Ease of retirement

By the end of their career, it’s hard for many to just stop working. Training is the ideal way to limit the end of the path of your career. Shortened hours allow you to easily step down without a shock, just stopping, you can do as much or as much work as you want, and anywhere.

  1. New experience

As in many workplaces, working and doing the same thing for long periods of time can mean that people stop developing their skills. Styles and methods that teachers use can become tired and boring to their young students. Working in different schools, meeting with different teachers of different backgrounds, allows us to understand alternative methods of teaching and inspire the next generation.

  1. Professional development – earn when you study

Teaching is also a good way to gain learning experience in different age ranges. This is a great start for NQT (a newly qualified teacher), which is difficult to get into the door for full-time work. Lets say you’re looking into supply teaching Northampton, you should take a look at the school sin the area and see if there are individuals you feel you can learn from. It always helps to have a role model or a professional you can look up to and learn from.

  1. Freedom from processing documents

Unfortunately, full-time teaching can be accompanied by a large number of documents: goals, assessment, school policy, meetings, planning. As a supply teacher, you can be largely free of these tedious tasks, allowing you to focus on the most important aspect: continuous education.

These are just a few of the reasons to break into supply teaching, but another advantage we haven’t really spoke of is that it’s easy to stop if you want. You could give it a try for a month or so and see how you get on. If you don’t like it and know that it’s not going to be a right career option for you, then at least you have it your best shot. And now you can think of something else you’d be better suited too.
